New Year, Same Me

A Very Happy New Year Everyone!

Now let’s start this year with a little taste of reality…

New Years Resolutions are only as effective as you make them.

I get it, the idea that we are able to start over “New Year, New Me” but in all reality, unless you are really truly ready to make some changes in your life, the changing of the calendar from 2018 to 2o19 is not going to magically drag you to the gym three times a week. Just like the change form 11:59 to 12:00 isn’t going to make you a more positive person!

As a human being, you are the sum total of all your memories, experiences, hopes, and dreams up until this very second. And to think that because the clock strikes midnight that who you are will completely change is honestly nothing more than wishful thinking.

With that being said… it isn’t completely hopeless. Instead of thinking of the new year as a do-over, think of it as bringing closure to all that you have experienced this past year, whether that means moving forward from the negativity or remembering all that you have to be thankful for.

For me, the end of 2018 brings closure. I can say with a complete sense of relief that this year ends an era for me. I have finally found the closure I need from a very big, dramatic, stressful, and life-changing part of my past, and with that being said, I can move forward to bigger and better thing this upcoming year! I am also beyond thankful for the amazing people that I’ve been blessed to have spent some of this year with. I have a few professors that have genuinely changed my life for the better, whether that be through pep talks between classes, lending an extra hand studying, pushing me to do better than I thought I could do, or helping to open doors for me. I have taken leaps and bounds toward becoming the professional that I hope to be and that is in huge part thanks to the amazing role-models and mentors that I have had this past year.

I am also blessed to have spent the past year working with so many adorable kiddos! Through my internship, I have really found my love of working with children growing exponentially each and every time I’m in a classroom. I am a psychology major, and I hope to work with at-risk children through counseling programs and intervention and prevention programs. This past year I was lucky enough to take over a program we run in a local pre-k and begin a redevelopment process. It has been a humbling experience and I thank my lucky stars every day that I’ve had the chance to really feel like I am already making a difference.

As for 2019,  I have big plans. But a wise woman once told me that if you are really on your game and have big plans that you are putting into action, keep that to yourself and make it a reality. So I guess you will just have to check back and see what 2019 has in store!

Love always, Me
